The concept of Jhokasou STP developed in the 1970s in Japan when water pollution was at its peak. After seeing the dramatic performance of the Jhokasou STP in reviving the environment, the Japanese government declared the Jhokasou STP act as a mandatory item for its citizens.

STP stands for Sewage Treatment Plant, which refers to the system’s function of treating and purifying wastewater. On the other hand, Johkasou is a Japanese word that means “purification tank.” It refers to a decentralized wastewater treatment system that uses microorganisms to clean wastewater.
